Shower Mirror Which Prevents Condensation

“Reflect’ shower head comes from Nick Paget, an industrial design teacher and we found the unusual shower mirror idea presented in detail here. You probably want to know what is the system behind this design and how can a mirror not fog-up during a hot water shower. The idea couldn’t be simpler: the incoming water warms up the mirror surface and this way condensation is prevented. “Reflect” makes things easier for those shaving in the shower- and particularly for the ones who sing and need an audience.

Fresh Furniture Collection Combining Elegance

The Mumbai Furniture Collection gathers gorgeous contemporary office furniture in one creative set. An executive table, a low sideboard and a taller cabinet form the collection. The desk is made from two sheets of plywood surrounding a lattice structure made of laser cut steel. Round corners give each piece of furniture an elegant and modern look, while the veneered surfaces and the visible edge of the plywood have a transparent polyurethane semi-open pore finishing. The name of the collection represents “something new, lively and innovative like the vibrant city Mumbai in India“, says Doriana Fuksas in an interview. Beautifully crafted, the three furniture items in the collection share the same design lines, but the desk is actually made using a unique technique that folded the plywood to the limits of the material’s capacity, creating an ingenious desk design. The legs of the cabinets make them look like speech bubbles – a creative way to use playfulness in the design.

ntriguing Combination of Form and Function

The Diviso Stool has an original appearance, was made from lightweight materials and can hold up to 120 kilos. The uncommon chair can easily contract and expand, making it possible for it to provide seating place for one, two or three persons. The designer sent us the press release for this product, which has been already exhibited at Designersblock 2010 as part of the London Design Festival: Creating a piece of furniture that flowed and changed with the users perspective, while also being easy and cost effective to make; was at the heart of the stool’s creation. The resulting stool consists of a single profile, one shape, whose defining feature is what is missing and not what is on show. The negative space created inside the Diviso stool plays with light and perspective, creating a seaming complexity through the repetition of the single simplistic profile. This principle of repetition also lends the stool to multiple forms, the Diviso stool can extend or contract in size, seating three or just the one person; depending on how many profiles are used“. According to the same press release, four versions of the Diviso Stool are available: all natural plywood, stained black plywood, aluminium/plywood, and a limited edition ghost.

Especially Designed for the Wine Lovers

The classy wine showroom also known as “LA GALERIE DU VIN” was especially developed for wine lovers and is not only a place for sale, but also a gathering area for the “connoisseurs”. Within the store, customers can taste from the various samples and share ideas during themed seminars. Here is more informations from OOS: Some 1,500 unbranded wine cases from the Bordeaux region cover the entire room up to the ceiling, creating a cave-like environment. The wooden cases are simultaneously an architectural element and a part of the furniture. Arranged in a grid pattern they serve as a platform for about 570 wines, books, seating areas and illuminated table display cabinets. The mostly French wines are spatially divided into various geographical regions and groupings, which conceal specific histories, cultures and landscapes. The reception counter is located in the middle of the room – it is equipped for wine consultation and with its violet and ruby colours provides quite a contrast to the wood of the wine cases. The original method of presentation together with the elaborate lighting design create more than just a wine showcase. As passers-by enter, they are “confronted” with an impressive gallery, a true wine museum.

This unusual indoor idea belongs to Rug-Maker, a hand knotted custom rug company. In order to produce and sell these carpets, an exclusive global license to manufacture Machin’s Stamp Rugs was granted by the Royal Mail. The collection is 100% handmade from 100% New Zealand wool in Nepal and comes in a rich color palette. The product is also available in various dimensions and aside from being used as a common rug, it can also be hung on the wall for an alternative look. You can purchase the stamp rug online by filling up this form- via Decoesfera

Unworldly Fitness Climbing Wall with Odd Challenges

The people in the images below look quite unusual doing what they do. But keep in mind that this is a very efficient sport, with immediate results. The uncommon climbing wall below is just one of the “accessories” of the much talked about Illoiha Omotesando fitness club in Tokyo and was designed by Nendo. Instead of the usual rock-shaped holding elements, this wall features plenty of unexpected objects which the climber will definitely find… propulsive.

Cool Living Room Arrangement

A very generous line of work for the designers who were present with creations at Milan Furniture Fair. We’ve seen so many twisted and completely unexpected shelves that we hardly managed to make a selection. We initially photographed this cool shelving idea but then realized that the whole living room arrangement is worth sharing. So here it is, in all its creativity. A modern and yet warm atmosphere is generated by the simple and yet novel overall design. The beautiful white couch contrasts with the wooden surrounding furniture.  And check out the highly original table design with decorative wooden elements, some of them placed unexpectedly outside the table perimeter.

Neo-Siheyuan Inspired Home in Japan

The concept revolves around the idea of having every room built like separates structures. The corridor is positioned in such a way that it almost surrounds the house, completely separating every room from the next one: “Paths covered by a glass roof weave between the disconnected structures to create an interior space that feels exterior, a private space that feels public, a hall that feels like an avenue. In that space the children can run around, you can enjoy a breeze while you eat, read under the sun, and fall asleep watching the stars.

Modern House Deep in the Forest

This is actually a visual illusion – the house maintains the slope of the land, while blending in with the natural environment, with trees that bring shade and comfort. Eco-friendly features earned it the prize from Juan de Vega Foundation. The Spanish designers from Rosales and Crecente Architects created this home in the forest from wood, the basic material for the exterior of the house, as well as the surrounding area. Placed in a small forest of oak, birch and chestnut trees, the Tellada House surprises with its modern appearance that amazingly fits right in.

Charming and Bright Apartment

Measuring 94 square meters, this place features large, open interiors and inspiring decors. Straight ahead from the entrance hall there is a large living room that serves as a dining area and as a gathering place between friends.  The room is perceived as very large and airy and offers various seating arrangements. The ceiling is more than 3 meters tall, which is quite impressive. A curved wall of windows facing the balcony creates a nice contrast with the other straight walls painted in a broken white color. We particularly like the framed Andy Warhol quotes above the dining table and the fresh colorful decorating items spread around the apartment. The balcony offers a wonderful place for taking a hot tea or a fresh coffee in the morning or enjoying a good book. Looks inviting?

Original Home with Charming Design

This beautiful residence is located in South Africa, in a small urban settlement. A single photo of the exterior is enough to demonstrate this home’s originality. The horizontal window “shields” made of wood have a particular charm and give the home a personalized look. With floor to ceiling windows, the indoor-outdoor connection is optimized without affecting the privacy of the inhabitants. Water was an important factor when laying out the outdoor space. Aside from the generous pool complimented by a dining area, the residence is enriched by various “oases”. The interior design is highly modern, with beautiful contemporary furniture arrangements and inspiring details. What intrigued us is the barbed wire in the last photo (a common addition to fences in South Africa) which contrasts heavily with the overall design of the house.

Apartment with Breathtaking Panoramic Views

This incredible apartment in Darling Point, Sydney has a privileged location which allows its inhabitants to enjoy stunning views of the harbor and Opera House. This apartment takes up the whole 16′th floor of a circular tower, which makes things… panoramic. Here is some information from Stanic Harding Architecture, the designers of this modern project: “Our desire was to alter the space to maximize its potential. This was done by reconfiguring the apartment to allow for a continuous path through all the spaces. All doors between rooms slide away into joinery to provide for an unencumbered journey to emphasis this. The apartment was stripped back to concrete shell and the spaces were redesigned to suit the tight dimension between core and window wall whilst at the same time to maximize the sense of space. This was done by spaces being more radial than orthogonal and further enhanced by each room maximizing its connection to full window bays wherever possible.” We appreciate  the highly modern feel that this apartment inspires, but in the same time can’t help but notice the seriousness of the interior design.

Cozy Reader’s Apartment in Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Freshome readers. Located in Cluj Napoca, Romania, this cozy crib has a few American influences, due to the fact that its owner spends nine months a year working in Arizona. The apartment has 35 square meters and features a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. Initially there was a wall between the living room and kitchen, but it was demounted so more living space could be gained. The owner wanted an airy home, without useless furniture items and other forms of clutter. The furniture was custom made by a friend. We really like the wall shelves and think they manage to add style, functionality and an overall warm feel. The color palette (black, white, red, silver) is engaging and not at all tiring. The apartment is located on the forth floor of a building and overlooks a beautiful forest. We really want to know how you see this place and if you consider the owner did a good job in designing this small home. We certainly do.

Thinking Outside the Square

his is the story of the Ruiz-Maasburg Penthouse in Madrid designed by Héctor Ruiz-Velázquez. Forced to turn an attic of only 60m2 inside and 50m2 of terrace/patio into a stylish, practical and modern living zone, the architects took advantage of every available square centimeter of space and optimized it. Using forced perspectives, a good lighting system and white painting, this apartment was turned into a dynamic crib with unusual angles. Here is more information: “A dynamic axis that emerges from the entrance leaves static spaces on both sides of the three-dimensional sinuous diagonal.  This entrance or hallway seems to defy gravity and logic and thus changes unexpectedly the perception of space according to the user and his movement trough them. Thus it creates a completely fluent and dynamic space in a static surrounding.”

Fresh Home Full of Color

Luckily, it recently went to a complete make-over and now it looks like a vivid and playful crib. It is amazing how adding a little color can completely turn around the way a home feels. This was probably what the designers had in mind when filling this place up with colorful decorating elements such as fluffy pillows on the floor, small rugs and tiny rustic containers. Due to the white background, these items stand out and create a visually pleasant contrast. The living room, dining room and kitchen are connected not only physically, but design-wise also. We like how this home seems to be decorated by respecting a fun pattern, one that involves color and youthfulness.
